932. Forget about the great astounding victory. Focus on winning small victories every day, the final victory will come by itself
― Bangambiki Habyarimana

Many people give up before trying a project because of its perceived magnitude. Let’s say you want to write a novel. You imagine how you will achieve that and it looks impossible. Or suppose you want a university degree, you imagine all those years you have to spend studying and the privations you will have to endure. Or you want to prepare your garden, it’s huge and you have no time to do it. You want to read a book of a thousand pages? Impossible, who can possibly do it? You wish to own a car but prices are prohibitive.

Don’t stress yourself too much with the final victory but concentrate on winning small victories on the way to the final victory. Rushing to the final victory can quickly lead you to defeat. Final victory is the final objective but before you get there you have a long way to go, you have rivers, forests, deserts, marshes to cross; you have dangerous animals to fight, you have bandits on the road, you have all kinds of obstacles to go through and you can’t just skip these terrible dangers and stand at the podium and wait for an official to hand you your medals. It doesn’t work like that in life. You have to go through all the stages, jump or destroy all the obstacles to rich your goals. But this looks unpalatable to many who want easy victories and overnight success.

940. The day you stop dreaming you will lose your wings
― Bangambiki Habyarimana

Have you ever been in a dream and when you were attacked by a dragon you grew wings and fled away? You were able to fly away until a doubt entered your sleepy mind telling you men don’t fly, you believed it, lost your wings and fell to the ground. The terrifying dragon rushed against you to consume you with his fires, you cried in terror and your friend calmed you. This is what happens with us in real life. The dragon is the challenge facing us, if we believe we can win that challenge we are naturally given means to succeed, but if we believe we can’t succeed in carrying out the mission, the power to succeed is withheld from us. Never stop believing in yourself, believe you can and all the necessary power to accomplish your goals will be given to you

941. All you need to win is a winning attitude

942. If you think you are too small to achieve your goals, think about the mosquito
― Bangambiki Habyarimana

I know about mosquitoes, not like a scientist but as their food. When it turns dark a mosquito knows that it is time for supper and it sets the table. And the mosquito intends to eat me, suck my blood and in the process infect me with the deadly malaria. I try to beat it and it runs away only to come back again. Mosquitoes attack where you are most vulnerable, places where you are not looking like the back of the neck, the feet, back of the legs. You become angry that it has managed to attack you and angrily hit hard where you feel you have been bitten but it’s too late and you hit yourself because the mosquito has flown away. You get frustrated for missing the evil insect but it never gives up, it is even ready to play games with you if necessary. If you manage to control it, it will relax until you are tired of hitting yourself and it will come back. If there is no chance, it will wait until you fall asleep and feast on you without a fight.

I have even tried to protect all my body except the face and the hands, but the relentless mosquito never gives up it came directly to bite me in the face or at the hands. For to the mosquito it is all or nothing. The mosquito seems to think “I get what I want or I die trying.”

The mosquito has an attack strategy: it flies in zigzag so that when you try to hit it you are left clapping hands to the genius of your foe. An insect so small but which set to itself an apparently impossible task to suck your blood and succeeds should be an inspiration of whoever thinks he is too small or unprepared to dream and reach his goals. The mosquito taught me that it is not brute force that is needed but determination.
